Collection of the American Arkology Society, No. 1886.51

Location: Yuma, Southwest Zone. Present-day Arizona.

The border dispute between the Pacific and Southwest Zones along the Colorado River spawned some of the most vicious insurgent fighting detailed by Ark artifacts. The irregular soldier seen here stands on a Yuma street during that city’s occupation by the Argus militia. Researchers have determined that Argus was one of many groups covertly funded by the PZ to claw back territory lost after the NE09 Arroyo Grande Accord.

The posters on the wall-torn copies of which have been found in the La Costa and Cartwright Arks-depict a combat knife and a map of the SWZ. The imagery telegraphs the brutal tactics in use by Argus members before they were driven out in June of NE12.

Argus Armband
The man depicted in Doyle’s model is a member of the Argus militia, an armed group covertly funded by the Pacific Zone to maintain control over disputed territory near the PZ-Southwest Zone border. The group’s armband features the all-seeing eye associated with Argus, a mythological Greek monster with one hundred eyes.

Poster
The poster in this scene, based on images found in the La Costa and Cartwright Arks, depicts a combat knife plunging into a map of the Southwest Zone – propaganda that makes clear to all in the area who controls this Yuma neighborhood.
