Matthew Jarndyke’s wallet provides scholars with a trove of information about its owner and has illuminated our understanding of day-to-day life in the GLZ.

Made of simple black cow-hide leather, the wallet contains $422 in $1, $5, $10, $20, and $50 bills. Given the $1 USD to $2.18 GLZ conversion rate estimated by arkology economics scholars, this would be $919.96 in today’s US currency. A rubber-banded bankroll with an additional $1,837 brings the total cash found in the Ark to $2,259.

The wallet’s identification cards, business cards, and receipts from GLZ businesses have established Jarndyke’s personal details and actions in late NE21; scholars have used them to posit theories about everything from domestic terrorism to sexual politics in the Zones.^a,b
