Though the Zone system reflects a fractured continent, popular culture appears to transcend these borders to a certain extent. Zone residents seem to share an interest in many of the same television programs, movies, and music.

Article
The main article on this page appears to reference military actions east of Minneapolis near the St. Croix river, one of many undertaken to remove separatist insurgents from the region. Reference is also made to Pan-zone Watch, a human rights organization that researchers assume documents human rights violations across the continent.

Scholars believe the news brief seen here is the reason Jarndyke included this clipping in the envelope. Jarndyke may or may not have been involved with The Plow organization, which claimed responsibility for this fire set in Lorain, a city on Lake Erie in present-day Ohio. However, the clipping’s inclusion fits Jarndyke’s apparent fascination with media coverage of militant acts.

The book here, “Walking Back from the Brink: The Rise of Tucson and the Road to War” appears to be a popular political science account of conflict in the Pacific Zone. Information on the situation is scant, but researchers have uncovered documents referring to Tucson as the chief benefactor of separatists along the western banks of the Colorado River who wish to be reunited with the Southwest Zone.

Article
The article seen here, which refers to the “O.K.”, references the “Old Kingdom” – known to us as a the United Kingdom. The story here was evidence used to establish a now-widely held hypothesis in the world of Arkology: that the European continent was at war for nearly 20 years – a conflict brought on by an invasion and occupation by the O.K.

Recruitment Advertisement
The advertisement here makes a plea to readers to join the Great Lakes Zone security forces and thus defend the homeland. The fact that readers are encouraged to speak to their “town’s recruiter” infers that this recruitment effort is widespread across the Zone. The term “K5 forgiveness” may refer to the K5 statute, a sweeping Great Lakes Zone law that imprisoned thousands of people for anti-government activities after the BrightBoy Uprising of OE12-13.
